HADWIN, PIERCE posted by Linda (Pierce) Stineff on Monday, April 8, 2002

I am looking for information on my Grandfather, Howard D. Pierce, in Chicago but believed to be raised somewhere near or around Assumption,Ill. Married Clara Oline Lien ca.1919 or 1920 who was b.1898 in Hillhead,S.D. I found them both in the 1920 census in Detroit,Mi. where my father,Richard Howard PIERCE was born. In 1921 they had another child, my aunt,Ava Geneveve PIERCE, in Minneapolis, Minn.My Dad was always told me that His father had changed his name from HADWIN to PIERCE(His mother's maiden name) after leaving home because of a falling out with his father. I do not know if this is fact or fiction. I can not find any trace of Howard D. PIERCE before 1920. My Grandmother did tell me he had a brother. My Grandparents devorced sometime before I was born in 1948 so she would not talk about him very much.

BLOUNT, SNODGRASS posted by Donna Smith on Sunday, April 21, 2002

Looking for anyone who has information about this family in Christian County. Believe they may have been family members of Benjamin B. BLOUNT who was granted land there for service in the War of 1812 from North Carolina. Census records of 1840, 1850, 1860 have Blount families listed. Benjamin B. married Nancy SNODGRASS in 1832 when it was still Sangamon County. Think this might be a second marriage as he was about 57 years old then and no children listed in his estate. He died in Effingham County in 1838.

HOPSON, KINCAID posted by Virginia Hines on Tuesday, May 21, 2002

I have been researching my husband's HOPSON ancestors, and I have a newspaper obituary from Waxahachie, TX which says that Alfred HOPSON came to Texas from Taylorville, Illinois about 1875. The census records show that he was born in Kentucky about 1830. I have not been able to find any census records for Illinois for 1860 or 1870. Do they not exist? He had about 9 or 10 sons, some born in Illinois and some in Texas. His wife was Susan KINCAID also born in Kentucky, I believe in Christian Co., KY. Their son, Frank HOPSON was my husband's great grandfather. They were saddle or harness makers.
