HALL, WEIR posted by William K. Hall on Wednesday, April 8, 1998

I am interested in finding out any information about my gr gf Thomas Douglas HALL who came to Illinois and Christian Co. (near Pana, I believe) to avoid the unpleasantries during the Civil War.  He and his family fled from Polk Co. Missouri during the early 1860s along with John WEIR and his family.  It is believed that the two families came up to Christian Co. to stay with relatives of John WEIR.  They remained in Illinois until the war was over.  The HALLs tended to have southern sympathies and at least one of TDH's sons fought for the confederacy. Any information on WEIR families and/or HALLs in the county during the Civil War would be most appreciated.  Thomas Douglas HALL's wife was named Telitha Emmarine WEIR.  Any help gratefully received.  Thanks.

POWELL posted by Kerry L. Moos on Sunday, May 3, 1998

I am searching for the first name of my g-g-g grandfather whose last name is POWELL.  His wife's name was Sarah. They were originally from Albany, New York and settled in Christian County between 1850 - 1860.  I believe they settled in Taylorville.  By 1870, Sarah POWELL had moved to Stark County, Illinois.  She is listed on the 1870 Stark County Census with her children. Is it possible that his first name was Charlesworth?  Is this the same Charlesworth POWELL who was a member of Co. H, 14th Illinois Infantry? Any help is appreciated.
