HAYS- Looking for the descendants of William and Elizabeth HAYS, who arrived in Martin County, Indiana approx 1812. Andrew and Sarah Ann HAYS'S children were Samuel, James, John, Andrew and Mary Ann HAYS, who were all born in Martin County, Indiana. Andrew HAYS traveled to Illinois in the 1830's first arriving in Sangamon County and marrying Sarah Ann HALL in 1839 in Springfield, Il. Andrew and Sarah (HALL)HAYS purchased land in Christian County, Il on January 25, 1851. Andrew and Sarah had children, Ulysses, Henry, David, Andrew, George and Tom HAYS. They also had three daughters, but all were deceased in 1891 at the time of Andrew HAYS Sr's death, which occurred July 25, 1891. Sarah HAYS died July 26, 1901. Henry HAYS, my great, great grandfather was born in Sangamon County on March 13,1841 and was first married to a Ruth Tilley in Christian County, Il on February 20, 1862 and she died sometime before his second marriage to Elzirah Katherine IRVIN, which occurred in Christian County, Il on August 7, 1873. Henry had the following children, Sarah Engeline HAYS born October 27, 1866 and died March 23, 1875, Andrew David HAYS and Mrs. Jennie CLARK, all children of Ruth and Henry HAYS. Henry and Elzirah's children were Eudora Emaline HAYS born January 5, 1885 and died July 1, 1886, Thomas Dudly HAYS, William Henry HAYS, George Thompson HAYS and Mrs. John WINTERS. Elzirah also had a brother Simion IRVIN of San Antonio, Texas and one sister Mrs. John SKIFF of Moweaqua, Il who survived at the time of her death in Christian County, Il on July 11, 1908. Henry HAYS died May 18, 1914 in Christian County, Il. Henry HAYS served during the Civil War with Company E, 32nd Ill Infantry. Andrew and Sarah (HALL) HAYS and Elzirah (IRVIN) Hays are all buried in the Hays family Cemetery in Moweaqua, Il. Henry married a woman named Mary EVANS in Decatur, Il on November 24, 1909 and no children were born to that union. According to the Moweaqua Centennial Book published in 1952, the land for the Hays Cemetery was donated by the HAYS family. Would like to know more about the history of the Hays Family Cemetery, with regard to who actually donated the land. Henry HAYS had a son named George THOMPSON HAYS, who was born in Macoupin County, Il on September 11, 1877. He married a Hattie MILLER on October 2, 1898 in Shelby County, Il. They had two sons, as was stated in the divorce decree printed in the Moweaqua Newspaper, when their one son Otis D. HAYS was very young. It still remains a mystery to me, as to who his brother was. The divorce decree stated that Hattie was seeking maintenance for his two sons. George T. HAYS supposedly married a Tina HEIGNER after his divorce from Hattie, but thus far no record of marriage has been found in any county in which he ever lived or was married in. George T. HAYS died July 25, 1955 in Springfield, Il and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Springfield, Il. Hattie later married Elmer JACOBS on April 3, 1902 in Christian County, Il. Otis and May's children were Dewey, John, Virginia, Erma, Dale, Adria and Violet. Erma was first married to a ? Whennen, divorced and married a man by the name of ? MILLS. She died in 1955 of cancer and supposedly had several children, which this writer has never met. Otis had a daughter Barbara by his second wife, Hazel DAVIDSON, after May's death on August 23, 1948 in Decatur, Il. Otis died May 23, 1976 in Decatur, Il. Otis was a WWII Vet and is buried in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Riverton, Il. Dewey HAYS married Florence (ALTEVOGT) on December 20, 1957 in Decatur, Il.
