Letter written in Sept 3, 1879

This is a letter written to my g-great grandmother in Saxton, MO from her mother in Mount Auburn, Christian County on September 3, 1879. I am not correcting the spelling, and at times it was hard to decifer, but it tells a lot about the times. I have several more that mention the weather, the cows, mules, chickens and crops. This was just one of the shorter ones.

My Dear Childrain after our best love this leavs us all well as comon hoping these few lines may find you all well i got your kind and welcom leter yesterday and was glad to hear from you all again i was sory to hear of your bad luck i wish you would come back wite a way my health is so poor and i have to work so hard i feel some times like i could not work another day if you dont com back this fall it maynever see me in this world but i hope to meat in a beter world thare has bin a good many deaths this sumemer thare is not mutch sickness now Old John blankinship is laying at the point of death robert elders lost thare baby it had the brain fever We have had a fine rain and it ant so hot as it has bin times is pety hard hear and money scarce but wee have a plenty to live on i wish you was haer to help me dry apels and make apel buter for i havnt any body to help me bennet and Julia lives at her fathers a bout three miles of the boys ses tha think it would bee the best thing you could to come back wee have plenty of corn and a prety fare crop of every thung alexander wants to hire a hand and he ses he wants to no a bout jack he will hire him i cant think of any more to wite now onely i want you to bee shure and come write a way i want to see the childrain kiss hatie and sadie for me and tell grammew dont forget them i must quit my love to you all from your mother to hir dear childrain
