As noted briefly in Tuesdays Palladium,Mrs. Cynthia Carter, perhaps the oldest resident of the city of Pana passed away at the home of her son,Robert Carter of South Grant Street about the noon hour Tuesday,February 22, aged 97 years and one month. Her demise was attributed to general senility, but she had lately contacted Pnumonia Fever which perhaps caused her death more directly.

Mrs. Carter was known by almost every human within the city, for she had been a resident here since Pana's early infancy, coming to this state from her Indiana Home in 1866.She witnessed Pana's growth, its progress among the cities of central Illinois and perhaps her acquaitance with the people of central Illinois was more extensive and thorough than any other resident of this section.

Mrs. Carter was born in Nashville,Ind.January 22,1824. In 1846 she became the wife of Carter, also a native of Indiana. To this union was born 11 children, four of whom survive, namely:Robert and John Carter of Pana and Paris Carter of Vandalia and William of Decatur. Her husband Robert Carter died on October 17, 1877 in Benton County, Arkansas.

Besides raising eleven children of her own,Grandma Carter bought up to Manhood and Womanhood three stepchildren and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Carter was of a loving and kind disposition, ever ready to lend of her wealth of sympathy, love and kindness where it was most in need. She was allied with the Baptist faith,a true Christian woman and her many traits of character endured her to those enjoyed her acquaintance.

Funeral services attendant to her burial will be held at the home of her son,Robert Carter of Southwest Pana on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.Rev.Harmon Eeter and Rev.
