"The newspaper actually had my g grandfather's name wrong. So I corrected."
My Great Grandfather was b 2/9/1852 and died 11/5/1927.
Albert M. Firey, the well known senior partner in the implement firm of Firey Brothers, died at his home last Saturday morning, November 5th, following a severe heart attack Friday night. A physician was summoned but was unable to give any relief and he died at 11 o'clock the next morning. Mr. Firey was apparently in good health and had been at his store all day Friday and the news of his sudden and unexpected death came as a distinct shock to the community. Mr. Firey was born in Mt. Auburn Township on February 9, 1852, the son of the late Isaac H. and Eliza Firey. In November, 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Mattie B. Virden of Mt. Auburn. To this union two sons were born, one, Homer, preceding his father in death August 14, 1923. Mr. Firey and his brother Isaac, for many years resided upon the Firey homestead near Edinburg. In 1889 they bought a farm one and one-half miles east of Edinburg, which is known as the Firey Farm. Here they engaged in farming for four years. Upon retiring they moved to Edinburg, the two brothers purchasing the Edinburg and Roby elevators, which they operated for a number of years. A short time after they bought the elevators they established the Firey Brothers Implement business, which they have since continued to conduct. In Mr. Firey's death, Edinburg not only loses a prominent and efficient business man, but a citizen of splendid character. He was a member of the local Masonic, O. E. S. and Modern Woodmen lodges and the Methodist church. He was a member of the church board. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Roy R. Firey of Edinburg, two brothers, Issac, of Edinburg, W. H. Firey of Dexter, Mo., one sister, Mrs. Susie Johnson of Spokane Wash. Two grandchildren also survive. Business houses closed Tuesday afternoon during the funeral which was held at the residence at 2 o'clock. Rev. Milton Wilson of LeRoy, former pastor of the Edinburg Methodist church, assisted by Rev. Harry A. Cochran, a local pastor, officiated at the services. Interment was made in the Edinburg cemetary, services being conducted by the Masonic order. tHe floral offerings were profuse and beautiful and the funeral largely attended. The pallbearers were Geo. R. Drennan, G. A. Wacher, A. W. Bryce, Dr. C. A. VanAusdall, Z. W. Barret and W. E. Holben. The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Elbert Wanack, Mrs. B.H. Jones, Mrs. Ralph Spindel, Mrs. Ralph Williams, Mrs. T. B. Hart, Mrs. Ray Frivott, Mrs. Everett bailey and Mrs. W. E. Holben. |
