BISHOP posted by Shirley Noyes on Thursday, August 6, 1998

Searching for information on my paternal g-grandfather, John Leonard BISHOP. Believed to have been born in Ohio about 1840?. He may have been orphaned when his parents died (of what is unknown). As the story has been told in our family, John Leonard BISHOP's family was traveling in a Conestoga Wagon when they died, all John Leonard could remember was that his parents were Pennsylvania Dutch. A family by the name of BISHOP raised the young lad and he took their surname of BISHOP. John Leonard BISHOP enlisted in the Illinois Co. A, 54th Inf. Reg. (Veteran Volunteers) as a Private on November 17, 1861 (he listed his residence as Pana, Illinois. A William J. BISHOP enlisted at the same time as John Leonard BISHOP (who also listed his residence as Pana, Illinois). I am trying  to find out if there is any connection between the two BISHOPs.  If anyone has any info, please contact me.

I am needing info on my g-grandparents: George William CLIFTON b. Illinois 1866, and  w. May MCDONALD b. Missouri in 1876.  They lived in Spring Valley on Iowa Street according to the  Illinois 1900 census. He was a miner and they had three children at that time.  Lester b.1894 in  Toluca, Mabel b. 20-Oct-1897 in Spring Valley and d. 23-Aug-1898 in Spring Valley, and Pearle b. 6-Sept-1899 in Spring Valley.  It appears the family moved shortly after Pearle was born since the next child Bertha was born in PA in 1902, then returning to Illinos before the birth of my grandmother, Mayme on 27-Sept-1904 in Pawnee.  I have hit a brick wall with both g-grandparents and any info about them or the birth/death of the children would be more than I have now.
