IN MEMORY OF LITTLE LULU ROLEY

Weep not dear parents, you have loved but
An angel sweet,
Dear little Lulu was plucked like a flower,
From earth to a Heavenly seat,
No more dear parents at your feet little
Lulu's footsteps to be heard,
Trying to murmur a sweet little word,
Nor grandparents an invalid form,
To carefully watch from late and early
Morn.
Household's only joy and delight
Like a summer flower gone far beyond their
Sight.

Gentle Lulu a while delay,
Thus they sung thy toilsome way,
While we pay the duty due
To our master and to you:
Over avarice, over fear
Love triumphant led thee here,
Warrior, list to us for we
Are slaves to love, are we friends to thee
Though no treasured gems have we
To proffer on the bended knee;
Though we boast no arm nor heart
For the assagai or dart
Swains above each little girl
Ruby lips and teeth of pearl.

God hath given, God hath taken
Angel Lulu fell asleep for him
And Angels to awaken.
